Medical treatment
Full treatment for a covered work injury through the state's medical provider network, with no deductible or copay to the injured employee.
The one line where your own history sets your price. We work the inputs first, then the market: class codes, payroll splits, experience modification, and open claim reserves.
Every California employer with even one employee is required to carry it. There is no small-business exemption and no waiting period.
What the policy covers
Full treatment for a covered work injury through the state's medical provider network, with no deductible or copay to the injured employee.
Wage replacement while an employee cannot work, generally two thirds of average weekly wage inside the state maximum.
Payments rated on impairment when an injury leaves lasting effects after the condition stabilizes.
Statutory benefits to dependents plus burial expense.
Defense and damages for injury suits that fall outside the exclusive remedy, including third party over actions.
Available on some union programs. Carve-outs can materially change how disputes resolve.

Four inputs drive the number. Three of them you can influence before renewal, and most brokers never touch them.
What we do before we market it
We pull your last two audits and the WCIRB classification, then compare what you are actually reporting against what the work looks like.
We recalculate the x-mod from the WCIRB worksheet and identify claims where the reserve is overstated or the claim should have closed.
We coordinate with the carrier or TPA on reserves that no longer match the medical, ahead of the unit statistical reporting date.
A clean submission with a corrected exposure base and a mod story gets underwriter attention. A raw ACORD 130 does not.
Classes we place regularly
Not on the list is not the same as not placeable. Ask.
Questions we get
Usually yes. Loss sensitive accounts and high mod accounts need a different set of markets than a clean small business, and they need a narrative that explains what changed. We write to the underwriter, not to the rating engine.
State Fund is the market of last resort and will write nearly anyone, which is valuable if your class or history is difficult. Private carriers frequently price better on clean accounts and add loss control, nurse triage, and return to work support that State Fund does not match.
Ninety days. Sixty is workable. Anything inside thirty and you are accepting whatever the incumbent puts in front of you, which is exactly the position a carrier prices for.
California allows certain officers and LLC members to exclude themselves by written waiver, subject to ownership thresholds. Excluding an officer who is regularly on a jobsite is usually a false economy.
